The Dangers of Worn Shock Absorbers

There are some extremely noticeable signs of worn shock absorbers to keep an eye out for

  • Difficulty stopping and increased braking distance
  • Loud vibrations from the wheels
  • Noise when driving and swerving under brakes
  • Uneven tyre wear
  • Pulling to one side
  • Easy bouncing and clunking

Struts, strut bearings, springs, anti-sway bars, stabiliser links and ball joints make up your suspension and shock absorbers. All of these parts become worn over time, loosen or break even with normal driving on even terrain, such as driving on a pot hole or hitting a curb can cause this damage. The car wheel rises slightly into the air as it passes over a bumpy surface. The suspension is necessary to protect all the road forces acting on the vehicle, especially the tyres. In addition, it protects the vehicle itself from damage.
